MTG- Could you still pay for prevented damage to prevent again with Story Circle/Circle of Protection?

You have to activate the ability before the damage is even dealt. When the ability resolves, you choose the source of damage, and the next time that damage would be dealt to you, it's prevented. It doesn't care if there's some other source trying to prevent the damage.
