What lasting impact did the Vikings have on England and its people?

Much of my father's family comes from near York and Durham originally. I have heard that the only incidence of type A blood which my family has around York is traceable directly to the Vikings. Otherwise that blood type is extremely rare in Yorkshire, England, UK.
